An estimated 183 million cinema admissions were recorded in France in 2001, a rise of about 10% and the strongest annual turnout since 1984, Gallic exhibitors reported Wednesday.
The boost came overwhelmingly from French productions: 21 domestic films exceeded one million admissions apiece, up from just six such hits in 2000.
